Belmopan, February 13, 2026.
The Cabinet met on February 10, 2026.
- Cabinet gave its approval to bring the Legal Aid Act, No. 15 of 2023, into force and to establish the Legal Aid Commission in the new fiscal year. In so doing, Government seeks to make legal aid readily available to certified persons of small or moderate economic means, while enabling the cost of providing legal aid to be defrayed by the National Assembly.
- Cabinet approved the Anti-Sexual Harassment Policy for the Public Service. The Policy includes the scope of application, definition of sexual harassment in the workplace, a complaints mechanism and internal resolution process, disciplinary action, and other relevant considerations. This reflects the Government’s commitment to the implementation of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 2024.
- Cabinet was apprised of and approved a project by the Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy and Logistics, along with the IDB, to implement the Least Cost Rural Electrification Plan designed to identify and prioritize cost-effective electrification in rural communities. This plan will include grid extension, renewable based mini-grids, and standalone systems to ensure optimal investments. It will address the remaining electrification gaps while supporting #PlanBelize’s commitment to the national development priorities to improve rural living through universal access to electricity.
- Cabinet gave its approval for the Belize Postal Service to charge an additional one-dollar fee to customers who ship packages to the United States of America. This has become necessary because of an Executive Order signed by the President of the United States of America in July of 2025, whereby all dutiable international postal items containing goods entering the United States are now taxed. Prior to this Executive Order, goods entering the US were duty-free up to US$800.
- Upon receiving information regarding the current status of sand and gravel extraction along the North Stann Creek River, the Cabinet has determined that a cautious and regulated approach is necessary. Consequently, the Cabinet has decided not to issue permits for any newly proposed extraction sites along the North Stann Creek River in 2026. The Cabinet also recommended that, for the second quarter of 2026, a technical reassessment of identified bars should be conducted to determine eligibility and extraction limits.
- Finally, Cabinet encourages all Belizeans to get vaccinated against the flu virus.
