Belmopan, October 23, 2026.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MoHW) has received reports through its hotline that meat involved in the delivery truck fire in Sandhill on October 9, 2026, is being sold to the public.
The Ministry strongly advises the public NOT to purchase, sell, distribute, prepare, or consume this meat. This meat is contaminated, as it was exposed to unsafe temperatures, smoke, and chemicals while being in a burning vehicle.
Consumption of contaminated meat may cause:
- Acute illness, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and abdominal pain.
- Chemical toxicity, which may cause organ damage.
- Long-term health effects, which may lead to an increased risk of certain illnesses, such as cancer.
The meat may appear normal and have no unusual smell despite being contaminated. Washing, seasoning, or cooking it will not remove harmful chemical contaminants or make it safe for consumption.
The MoHW urges the public to protect their health and the health of their families by not consuming, selling, or handling this meat.
For any questions or concerns, please contact Principal Public Health Inspector Mr. John Bodden at 880-2363 or at the hotline number 0-800-MOH-CARE (0-800-664-2273).
