Belmopan, March 26, 2026.
The Ministry of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs is pleased to announce a generous contribution of over $15,000 in modern gaming equipment, made possible through the Minister in collaboration with Top Gadgets. The donation will support the Department of Human Services’ newly introduced Rewards Gaming Programme for children and adolescents residing in government-operated residential care facilities.
This initiative will benefit residents at three government childcare facilities: Coral Grove Residential Care Facility, Mile 14 Residential Care Facility, and the Dorothy Menzies Child Care Centre (DMCCC). The gaming systems will form part of a structured rewards programme designed to encourage positive behaviour, participation in daily responsibilities, academic engagement, and overall personal development among wards of the state.
Through this contribution, the facilities will receive:
- Four (4) PlayStation 5 consoles
- Four (4) 50-inch televisions
- Games for each console
- Eighteen (18) gaming controllers
- Nine (9) charging ports for controllers
The Rewards Gaming Programme forms part of the Department’s broader strategy to introduce contemporary recreational and engagement opportunities that resonate with young people in residential care. When structured and supervised, gaming can provide youth with positive outlets for stress relief, social interaction, teamwork, and cognitive development.
“The Department is extremely grateful for the continued support of the Minister in helping us introduce new and engaging activities for children in care. This initiative recognizes the importance of providing modern recreational outlets that motivate and uplift our young residents while reinforcing positive behaviour and personal growth,” a representative from the Department noted.
The Ministry of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs, along with the Department of Human Services, remain committed to ensuring that all wards of the state have access to safe, supportive, and stimulating environments that promote their emotional well-being, development, and future success.
