Belize Welcomes European Commission Decision on Visa Cascade for Belizeans

Belmopan, November 12, 2025.

The Government of Belize welcomes the decision of the European Commission to approve a visa cascade for Belizean nationals who are holders of regular, official, and diplomatic biometric passports. The decision, which takes immediate effect, has been formally communicated to Hon. Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Under this new arrangement, Belizean nationals applying at Schengen embassies in Guatemala or Mexico will now be eligible for five-year multiple-entry Schengen visas.

This measure represents the most generous adaptation of the EU Visa Code rules available to nationals of a third country. Belizeans granted a Schengen visa may now benefit from a five-year validity period, eliminating the need for repeat applications during that time, provided their biometric passports remain valid.

The European Commission’s decision reflects the strong and enduring partnership between the European Union and Belize and recognises that there are no particular security concerns associated with the travel of Belizean citizens to the EU.

This important development will facilitate greater mobility and people-to-people connections, encouraging tourism, business, educational exchange, and family visits between Belize and the European Union.

The Government of Belize conveys its appreciation to the European Commission for this step in strengthening the longstanding relationship between Belize and the European Union.
