On Thursday, November 6, 2025, the Ministry of Investment, through the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit (IPCU), in collaboration with the Aquaculture Unit of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise and the Chunox St. Viator Vocational High School, completed training in tilapia farming and inaugurated two locally assembled tilapia culture tanks.

It was funded by the Government of Belize through the project “Regional Economic Development Master Plan for the Corozal District.” Each tank has been designed and built by Belizean technicians to produce 300 tilapia over five months. All materials for the project were sourced in Belize.

Thirteen students were awarded certificates in tilapia husbandry by Hon. Florencio Marin Jr., Minister of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government, and Mr. Michael Sosa, Director of the Aquaculture Unit in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise.  Also present at the inauguration were Mr. Lincoln Blake, Director of the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit (IPCU) in the Ministry of Investment; Mr. Marconie Moh, Principal; Mr. Francisco Magaña, Chairman of the Board of Directors of St. Viator Vocational High School; and Mr. Juan Carlos Menzies, the Managing Director of Caracol Architectural Designs, who assisted with tank construction.

The Corozal Think Tank is the steering committee of the Regional Economic Development Master Plan for the Corozal District. It is comprised of a group of Government representatives and professionals from the Corozal District, who are tasked with monitoring and implementing the projects under the master plan. Residents of the Corozal District are encouraged to visit the school to learn about the Belizean-designed tilapia tanks or to contact the Ministry of Investment for further information.
