Belmopan. July 15, 2025.
The Ministry of Economic Transformation is pleased to announce the approval and forthcoming implementation of the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF) Eleventh Programme in Belize. The programme, which will be executed by the Belize Social Investment Fund (BSIF), is made possible through a grant of US$5,194,000 from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) under its Special Funds Resources.
The grant was approved by the CDB Board of Directors during its 310th Meeting held on June 9, 2025, and formally communicated to the Government of Belize on July 9, 2025. This funding marks a continuation of CDB’s long-standing support for poverty reduction and human development in the region, with this phase focusing on sustainable improvements to infrastructure and livelihoods across Belize.
The BNTF 11 Programme seeks to reduce poverty and improve the living conditions of residents in low-income and vulnerable communities throughout the country. Key areas of investment will include:
- Quality education and training
- Water and sanitation systems
- Community access and drainage
- Livelihood enhancement
- Human resource development services
Implementation of the programme will be guided by a strong framework of transparency, environmental and social safeguards, and robust monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. BSIF, the executing agency, will collaborate closely with the Ministry of Economic Transformation and other national stakeholders to ensure the effective and efficient rollout of the programme’s components.
This significant investment in our communities underscores the Government of Belize’s continued commitment to inclusive and sustainable development. With the support of CDB, GOB is targeting those most in need to ensure equitable access to basic services and to uplift the quality of life for all Belizeans.
The Ministry of Economic Transformation extends its sincere gratitude to the Caribbean Development Bank for its continued partnership and reaffirms its dedication to working with all relevant agencies and community stakeholders to achieve the goals of BNTF 11.
