Belmopan, May 2, 2025.
The Cabinet met on 29th April 2025.
- Cabinet was updated on the current arrival procedures in Belize’s Nautical Tourism Sector, specifically for Commercial Recreational Vessels and Pleasure Yachts, and requested that the Minister of Tourism proceed with the process of drafting necessary legislative and policy reforms to address existing operational and fiscal barriers for the growth of the sector.
- Cabinet gave its approval for the Department of Transport to adjust the approved $30.00 flat rate axle fee for all cargo trucks to a flat rate of $10.00. This change was granted after the Minister with responsibility for Transport received concerns from stakeholders that the $30.00 flat rate structure would disproportionately impact the livelihoods of Belizean truckers.
- Having been appraised on the regional and national developments on the Professions Bill and the Single Registration Bill, Cabinet gave its approval for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade to launch the Single Registration regime for professionals who are ready and directed the relevant departments and agencies to work with the Directory of Foreign Trade on this matter. Further consultations will be carried out with those associations that are not yet ready to ensure that all their concerns and questions are addressed.
- Cabinet approved amendments to Customs and Excise Duties Act Chapter 48 of the Substantive Laws of Belize to implement scheduled reduction of duties in accordance with the Government’s requirements under the Belize Taiwan Economic Cooperation Agreement and the CARIFORUM-European Union and CARIFORUM-UK Economic Partnership Agreements.
- In commemoration of Labour Day, Cabinet extends its appreciation to our Belizean workers.
- Finally, Cabinet reminds all Belizeans to drive carefully and buckle up for safety.
