World Health Organization Lists SINOPHARM COVID-19 Vaccine for Emergency Use

Belmopan. May 14, 2021. 8:50 a.m.

On May 7, 2021, the World Health Organization listed the SINOPHARM COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use against COVID-19.

The vaccine is produced by the Beijing Bio-Institute of Biological Products Co Ltd (BIBP), a subsidy of China National Biotec Group.

On April 8, 2021, the Government of Belize received a donation of 10,000 doses of the SINOPHARM BIBP COVID-19 vaccine from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). At this time, the ministry is preparing to include this vaccine into its COVID-19 vaccine schedule. The public will be informed of that date accordingly.

The Ministry of Health & Wellness expresses its gratitude to the people and Government of the UAE for its donation to Belize.

As a part of Belize’s COVID-19 response, the Ministry of Health & Wellness continues to collaborate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and international partners to secure COVID-19 vaccines for the Belizean populace. The ministry reiterates the call for persons whose phases have been called to get vaccinated.  The public is also reminded that even after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, persons are to continue to follow the COVID-19 guidelines: wear masks properly in public, maintain physical distancing and wash and sanitize hands often. Please stay at home and call the ministry’s hotline at 0-800-664-2273 for more information.
