Belmopan. June 5, 2020. 9:35 a.m.

On June 4, 2020, the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) donated 15,000 masks in support of the Government of Belize and its comprehensive and coordinated efforts taken to contain COVID-19. H. E. Remus Li Kuo Chen, Ambassador of Taiwan to Belize, also donated an automated temperature measurement system to the Ministry of Foreign Affair.

Hon. Wilfred Elrington, Minister of Foreign Affairs, accepted the donations from H.E. Remus Li-Kuo Chen. The masks will be distributed across Government to facilitate service delivery and to those in need. The automated temperature measurement system will be integrated into the eco-friendly building currently under construction for the MFA headquarters.

These actions reflect the consistent and robust engagement by Taiwan to partner in Belize’s development. The assistance given on multiple levels recognises that economic stability, the effects of climate change, and good public health are intertwined.

President of Taiwan Madame Tsai Ing-wen said, “We cannot stop the spread of COVID-19 by simply preventing an outbreak in Taiwan. All members of the international community must pool their capabilities and work together to overcome this challenge.”

Belize salutes Taiwan for its successful response to COVID-19 and its commitment to share research, knowledge, and best practice with the global community. Belize is especially grateful for Taiwan’s unwavering support during these unprecedented times.
