Belmopan, October 26, 2026.
The Government of Belize acknowledges the resignation of Ambassador Alexis Rosado from his position as Co-Agent for Belize in the cases before the International Court of Justice, effective today.
Mr. Rosado is facing criminal proceedings before the courts of Belize and is entitled to the presumption of innocence. In keeping with that principle, and out of respect for the judicial process and for all persons involved, the Government will make no further comment on the matter.
The Government is committed to the highest standards of integrity in public service and in the representation of Belize abroad. It also remains fully committed to Belize’s cases before the International Court of Justice. Belize’s written submissions have been filed, and the Government is confident that the case will continue to be presented with the rigour and continuity it demands, under the leadership of Ambassador Assad Shoman, Belize’s Agent before the ICJ, and the legal team.
Belize will continue to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity by peaceful means, in accordance with international law.
