National Emergency Management Minister Addresses NEMO Planning Session

Belmopan. May 29, 2019. Minister of National Emergency Management, Honorable Edmond Castro this morning addressed personnel at a Transportation and Evacuation Planning Session conducted at the NEMO Headquarters in Belmopan. The specific purpose of the session was to discuss Coastal and Mainland Evacuation in the event of a major hurricane.

Honorable Castro thanked the participants from the relevant emergency committees for their dedicated service and stated that while the Hurricane Season runs from June to November, he is pleased to note that in Belize these days planning and preparation for disasters occurs all year round. Only with this level of constant planning and fine-tuning can we be effective in disaster risk reduction and management, the Minister emphasized.

Also conducted today in Belmopan was a planning session for the Logistics Supply System to discuss how to receive and track supplies coming into the country.

The 2019 Hurricane Season starts this coming Saturday, June 1, 2019.
