Progress in Corazon Creek Village’s Energy Transformation Initiative

Belmopan, March 4, 2024.

The Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics, and E-Governance announces that the highly anticipated generation system arrived in February at Corazon Creek Village, Toledo District. This system includes state-of-the-art solar photovoltaic panels, a control room with inverters, a generator, and a battery bank system, marking a pivotal moment in the community’s energy journey.

This significant progress toward sustainable energy solutions results from a consent agreement signed in September 2023 between the Government of Belize through the Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics, and E-Governance (MPUELE) and Corazon Creek Village.

Funded by the generous support of the CDW Foundation, a non-governmental organization based in Germany, installation of the generation unit and wiring of homes for the Corazon Off-grid Solar PV System is well underway. Solar Energy Solutions Belize (SESB) is leading this transformative effort in collaboration with Belize Electricity Limited (BEL), which is responsible for the distribution network.

As a part of MPUELE’s commitment to promoting energy efficiency and sustainable practices, the Ministry’s Energy Unit conducted a comprehensive presentation on energy efficiency. This initiative is part of the Ministry’s broader energy efficiency awareness program. The program aims to empower residents to make informed decisions about their electricity usage, ensuring a more sustainable and mindful approach to energy consumption.

The Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics, and E-Governance is incredibly proud of the progress achieved thus far and remains dedicated to supporting Corazon Creek Village on its journey toward a greener, more sustainable future.
