Prime Minister Names New Ambassador to the UN Office in Geneva

Belmopan, February 16, 2026.

Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño has appointed Dr. Harold A. Young as the new Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Belize to the United Nations Office in Geneva. Ambassador Young presented his credentials today to H.E. Tatiana Valovaya, Director General of the UN Office in Geneva.

Dr. Young has held various positions in academia, both in Belize and abroad. Most recently, he was an Associate Professor for Political Science and Public Management at Austin Peay State University and Advisor to the Department of History at the University of Belize.

Dr. Young was awarded a doctorate in Public Law (PhD) from Georgia State University in 2016. His dissertation focused on the role of extraterritorial courts, drawing on the experience of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.

Dr. Young is also a published author, writing on topics ranging from history to law to politics.

Ambassador Young will also be nominated for accreditation to the World Trade Organization.
