MoEST Expresses Concern and Support for Belizeans in Jamaica Amid Hurricane Melissa

Belmopan, October 26, 2025.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) expresses its deep concern and solidarity with all Belizeans, especially Belizean students currently in Jamaica, as the island braces for the impact of Hurricane Melissa.

The Ministry has been in contact with the Government of Jamaica and the University of the West Indies, both of which have assured that all necessary safety protocols and contingency measures are in place to support local and international students. Shelters have been opened, and emergency response systems remain active.

The MoEST strongly urges all Belizeans in Jamaica to remain vigilant, seek safe shelter, and adhere closely to official advisories and instructions issued by the Government of Jamaica and their respective institutions.

The Ministry will continue to monitor the situation closely in coordination with the relevant authorities and stands ready to support the safety and wellbeing of Belizeans during and after the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

The MoEST extends its thoughts and prayers to all those who may be affected and reaffirms its commitment to the continued safety and support of Belizean students abroad.
