Ministry Releases Statement Following Orange Walk Tragedy

Belmopan, October 20, 2025.

The Ministry of the Public Service, Governance, and Disaster Risk Management expresses its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Ms. Angelita Majana and her young son, Tishan Godoy, who tragically lost their lives in a fire that occurred this morning in the Orange Walk District.

The Ministry joins the Majana family and the community in mourning this profound loss and sends thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

The Ministry also extends sincere wishes for the full and speedy recovery of the surviving victims, Mr. Miguel Novelo and Miss Shadia Majana, who continue to receive medical care.

The Ministry commends the authorities for their swift action in detaining the accused arsonist and acknowledges the tireless efforts of the National Fire Service and all first responders who assisted at the scene. It also reaffirms its commitment to working alongside the relevant authorities to strengthen fire prevention, preparedness, and community safety across Belize.

May the memories of Angelita and Tishan bring comfort and strength to all who mourn their passing.
