Ministry of Works Signs Contract for Rehabilitation of Portion of the George Price Highway

Belmopan. February 18, 2019. A contract was signed between the Government of Belize and Imer Hernandez Development Company Ltd in the amount of BZ$19,012,935.90 for the rehabilitation of 16.580 km of the George Price Highway, commencing at Blackman Eddy Village and ending at the roundabout in Santa Elena, Cayo District.

The scope of the works includes horizontal and vertical realignment of the roadway to meet international safety standards as well as the upgrading of drainage to improve climate resilience on the road. Also included are the placement of major culverts at key locations, clearing of the road reserve, the removal of any remnant structures, obstructions, construction of safety barriers, sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, bus stops, runoff channels, as well as the marking of road center and edge line markings.

The project will be implemented through the Ministry of Works with a loan from the Inter-American Development Bank, a grant from the European Union – Caribbean Investment Facility (CIF) and counterpart funding from the Government of Belize.

It is anticipated that works will commence immediately and will improve mobility along the western route, bringing much-needed relief to motorists and residents that use the road on a daily basis, and will provide job opportunities for Belizeans.

The works will be supervised by IMC Worldwide on behalf of the Ministry of Works.
