Belmopan, April 26, 2026.
The Ministry of Transportation advises the public that, based on the decision of the Belize Bus Association (BBA) to reject the new fares that they had previously requested, which were to come into effect on Monday, April 27, 2026, and on their request instead for a subsidy to mitigate the rising cost of fuel, the Government has decided on the following:
- Not to implement any adjustments to fares; therefore, the previous fares remain in effect, and
- To provide a subsidy to the national highway bus operators to assist them with rising fuel prices.
The details of the subsidy will be shared with the public on Monday, April 27, 2026. These measures are also being taken in the best interest of commuters’ welfare.
The Ministry looks forward to continuing to assist with the stabilization and modernization of the national highway bus sector.
