Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government Meets with San Antonio Village Council and Water Board

On December 7, 2020, the Hon. Oscar Requena, Minister of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government, and Mr. Valentino Shal, the Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry, held a meeting with the newly appointed water board and the village council in San Antonio Village, Toledo District. The main objective of the meeting was to discuss the challenges the community is facing regarding water.

 

The San Antonio Water System was constructed in 1996, supplying approximately 120 households. Today, the village has a total of 360 households and the water system has been affected by numerous water challenges. It was agreed that a new production well would be drilled as a temporary measure to alleviate the current water shortage. A follow-up project will be done to improve and upgrade the water system.

 

The Minister reemphasized the importance of accountability, transparency and efficiency when managing these systems. Furthermore, the Minister agreed that an audit will be conducted on the water board in order for the new board to be placed on a sound financial footing.

 

The meeting concluded with a visit to potential well sites.
