Ministry of Local Government Conducts Orientation Sessions for All Newly Elected Councils

Belmopan, March 10, 2021. 12:15 p.m. 

On March 3, 2021, nine mayors and their councillors were elected to oversee and govern the development of their respective municipalities across the country. As a result, the newly elected officials must participate in orientation sessions conducted by the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government.

The orientation sessions will introduce the necessary information that the councils will need to work effectively. These sessions entail a review of the relevant legislation, powers and duties of councils, financial management and reporting.

The schedule for the orientation sessions is as follows:

  1. Dangriga Town Council – Tuesday, March 9th – 9:00 a.m.
  2. Punta Gorda Town Council – Wednesday, March 10th – 9:00 a.m.
  3. Benque Viejo Town Council – Thursday, March 11th – 9:00 a.m.
  4. San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council – Friday, March 12th – 9:00 a.m.
  5. Orange Walk Town Council – Tuesday, March 16th – 9:00 a.m.
  6. Corozal Town Council – Wednesday, March 17th – 9:00 a.m.
  7. San Pedro Town Council – Thursday, March 18th – 9:00 a.m.
  8. Belize City Council – Friday, March 19th – 9:00 a.m.
  9. Belmopan City Council – Monday, March 22nd – 9:00 a.m. The Ministry of Local Government looks forward to collaborating and supporting all Councils in delivering improved services to their respective municipalities.
