Belmopan. July 16, 2025.
The Ministry of Investment, through its Investment Policy and Compliance Unit (IPCU), in collaboration with the Taiwan Technical Mission, and the Ministry of Human Development, Family Support, and Gender Affairs, through the National Women’s Commission, has launched the third phase for the project, “Cell Phone Repair Training for Women in Belize.” This phase of the project is being held at the Belize Training & Employment Centre (BTEC).
At the opening ceremony, speakers emphasized the importance of advocating for programs like this in Belize, noting the growing demand for qualified technicians and the opportunity for women to succeed in this rapidly emerging industry. The National Women’s Commission’s commitment to the National Gender Policy 2024-2030 complements the mission of the Ministry of Investment’s mission to foster sustainable economic benefits by identifying emerging sectors such as the Orange Economy.
Following the 2024 pilot projects in the Corozal and Orange Walk Districts, this training has been requested across the country due to the limited availability of cell phone repair services. The expansion to the Belize District was made possible through financing from the Taiwan Technical Mission as an outcome of the pilot project’s success in the north. The current training cohort includes women and girls from Belize City, Ladyville, Lord’s Bank, Hattieville, and the New Beginnings Youth Development Centre.
Dignitaries present at the opening ceremony included Hon. Thea Garcia-Ramirez, Minister of Human Development, Family Support, and Gender Affairs; Mr. Lincoln Blake, Director of the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit; Mr. Andrew Su, Chief of the Taiwan Technical Mission in Belize; Ms. Eleanor Murillo, Executive Director of the National Women’s Commission; Ms. Indira Usher, Foreign Service Officer from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Culture, and Immigration; and Mr. Abisur Quintal, Instructor from Jarvis Fix.
