Ministry of Immigration Receives Donation of PPE from Taiwanese Embassy

Belmopan. June 10, 2021. 5:00 p.m.

At a brief ceremony held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration in Belmopan, Hon. Ramon Cervantes, Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration, received a donation of 5,000 face masks and 500 isolation gowns from H.E. David Kuan-Chou Chien, Taiwan’s Ambassador to Belize.

The donation will be used by officers of the Border Management and Immigration Services Department and the Nationality and Passports Department.       

In his remarks during the ceremony, the ambassador noted the importance of collaborating with each other to curve the spread of the virus and the benefit of the donation to frontline officers of the departments in executing their duties. He also highlighted the relationship between Belize and Taiwan for the past 30 years.

Minister Cervantes expressed gratitude for the donation and spoke of the generosity of Taiwan towards Belize especially at this time of economic austerity.

Present to witness the handing over was Mrs. Debra Baptist Estrada, director of Border Management and Immigration Services.

The ministry thanks the Embassy of Taiwan for serving as a strategic partner in its endeavour to become a modern and proficient organization, which contributes to the sustainable development of Belize by providing world-class border protection and travel facilitation services.
