Ministry of Health & Wellness Commemorates Wellness Week 2022

Belmopan, September 23, 2022. 11:00 a.m.

The Ministry of Health & Wellness, in collaboration with PAHO and other partners, is inviting ministries, departments and organizations to participate in Wellness Week, from September 24 to 30, 2022.

The overarching wellness theme for 2020-2024 is “Power Through Collective Action” and the sub-theme for 2022 Wellness Week is “For a healthy and participatory environment.” This campaign is a call for countries to strengthen support mechanisms and foster well-being to help create a positive working and social environments.

Throughout the week there will be key messaging and activities on the following:

  • Increasing physical activity in the workplace and community settings
  • Knowing your numbers and the importance of health screenings such as glucose testing, pap smears, mammograms, etc.
  • Fostering healthy schools and encouraging healthy food options
  • Supporting a holistic approach to mental health ─ physical, mental and spiritual

Planned events include a SOCA-Thon (walk-a-thon) in Belize City on September 24 to kick off the week’s activities. Every other day during the week, countrywide events will highlight an important aspect of wellness.

Countries in the Caribbean and SICA member states observe Wellness Week annually as an important commemorative week that provides an opportunity to increase awareness of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) given their heavy burden in the region. The activities are intended to mobilize and strengthen public, private and civil society partnerships for NCDs; and promote multi-country, multisector activities in support of wellness.

Follow the ministry’s social media pages, join us and share our activities.

Protect your health in this movement to be part of the solution to the burden of NCDs.
