Belmopan. April 28, 2025.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) wishes to update the public on the ongoing response to the measles outbreak, which began with the diagnosis of two confirmed imported cases on April 12, 2025.
Following this initial detection, an additional five cases were identified within a group of close contacts. These cases, epidemiologically linked to the first two, were confirmed clinically between April 9 and 13. Moreover, 22 school contacts were identified, of which 12 were fully vaccinated, 5 were unvaccinated, and 4 had unknown vaccination status.
Close contacts of confirmed cases are being closely monitored to promptly detect and respond to any symptomatic individuals.
The MOHW continues to maintain heightened surveillance efforts across the country. So far, a total of 14 samples have been sent to Mexico for laboratory testing, and we are pleased to report that all results have come back negative.
Additionally, the national vaccination campaign remains in full effect. The MOHW extends its gratitude to everyone for their cooperation in the uptake of vaccines countrywide.
