Belmopan, July 1, 2026.
Hon. Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries, has assumed the pro tempore presidency of the Council of Ministers of the Central American Agricultural Council (CAC) for the second half of 2026. The Central American Agricultural Council is an organ of the Central American Integration System (SICA), of which Belize is a member.
Minister Ferguson participated in a virtual meeting this morning with officials of SECAC, the Executive Secretariat of the Central American Agricultural Council, where he assumed the pro tempore presidency. Minister Ferguson was accompanied by Hon. Luis Alex Balona, Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture. The meeting addressed the priorities and agenda that the pro tempore presidency will drive forward. The ministers reaffirmed the commitment to strengthen regional coordination, policy dialogue, and cooperation among member countries to advance an agricultural agenda that is resilient, sustainable, and focused on food security for Central America and the Dominican Republic.
CAC continues to strengthen regional integration to promote the sustainable development of the agricultural sector and the well-being of rural families, especially in the face of regional and global threats to agriculture such as Fusarium, African Swine Fever, and Avian Flu.
