Minister Eamon Courtenay Attends Extraordinary Meeting between Ministers of Foreign Affairs of SICA and UN High Commissioner for Refugees

Hon. Eamon Courtenay, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, and Immigration, attended the Extraordinary Meeting between Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Central American Integration System (SICA) and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, H.E. Filippo Grandi.

Minister Courtenay highlighted that the COVID-19 pandemic presents new and exacerbated challenges for refugees and the national systems that protect them.  He called for urgent, resource-driven humanitarian and development cooperation to strengthen the region’s response.

The Minister specifically reported on Belize’s related priorities, challenges, and continued performance to advance its obligations to prevailing international humanitarian and refugee accords.
