MET Signs Contract for the Construction of a Police Station in Caye Caulker

Belmopan, January 14, 2026.

On January 13, 2026, the Ministry of Economic Transformation and Coleman Construction Limited signed a contract for the construction of a new police station in Caye Caulker. The agreement was witnessed by Hon. Oscar Mira, Minister of Home Affairs and Enterprise, and Hon. Abner Andre Perez, Area Representative for Belize Rural South.

This project is part of the Belize Integral Security Programme (BISP), a comprehensive initiative aimed at enhancing citizen security, with a budget of BZ$60 million. The programme is funded by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), with its primary goal being to strengthen the capacity of the Belize Police Department (BPD) to effectively combat crime and enhance its ability to ensure citizen safety.

The new police station is expected to cost BZ$1,544,298.00 and will provide over 3,500 square feet of dedicated workspace. It will be equipped with modern amenities, including designated areas for a domestic violence unit, a secure evidence room, private interview rooms, a crime investigation room, and a conference room. Once completed, this police station will serve the residents of Caye Caulker as well as the growing number of tourists who visit annually.
