The Ministry of Health and Wellness hereby provides an update on the ongoing measles outbreak. As a result of heightened ongoing surveillance efforts, samples have been collected from 69 individuals experiencing fever and rash. From that total, 66 (95%) have been processed. To date, from the start of the outbreak, a total of nine laboratory-confirmed cases and 13 epidemiologically linked cases have been diagnosed with measles.
The Ministry emphasizes the safety and effectiveness of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccines in protecting individuals against the disease. It must be highlighted that children under five and young people are at a higher risk of developing complications from measles.
The Ministry thanks the public for their cooperation as it continues enhanced surveillance efforts countrywide. It also extends appreciation to the health professionals across both the public and private sectors for their dedication to controlling the spread of measles.
