Government of Belize Extends Condolences on the Passing of Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz

Belmopan, September 17, 2025.

The Government of Belize expresses its profound condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of Cuba on the passing of Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, a distinguished statesman, diplomat, and lifelong servant of the Cuban people.

Mr. Cabrisas dedicated decades of service to the Cuban Revolution and held several high-ranking positions in the Cuban Government, including Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment. He played a central role in Cuba’s economic and diplomatic affairs and was widely respected across the region and the international community for his deep commitment to regional integration, social justice, and South-South cooperation.

Belize remembers Ricardo Cabrisas as a steadfast friend of our country and a champion of Caribbean-Latin American solidarity. His contributions to strengthening bilateral ties between Belize and Cuba remain deeply appreciated. He was instrumental in advancing cooperation in key areas such as health, education, and diplomacy, and in building bridges between our peoples. Former Foreign Minister Eamon Courtenay described Cabrisas as “a great friend of Belize and the Caribbean, we worked together over the years, always based on mutual respect, solidarity, and seeking betterment for the peoples of the Global South.”

At this time of mourning, the Government and people of Belize stand in solidarity with the Cuban people and extend heartfelt sympathies to Mr. Cabrisas’s family, colleagues, and all those who had the privilege of working with him throughout his decades of public service.

May his legacy continue to inspire future generations of leaders committed to peace, equity, and unity across Latin America and the Caribbean.
