The Office of the Prime Minister, through the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit (IPCU) and in collaboration with the Corozal Think Tank, held a handover ceremony for 110 computers to 5 primary schools in the Corozal district to assist with information technology education, as well as simulators for the Corozal ITVET to conduct “Metal Inert Gas (MIG) Welding Augmented Reality (AR) Training.”
The first handover was for a total of 100 desktops donated by Transparent BPO and 10 laptops provided by the Office of the Prime Minister to St. Paul’s Anglican Primary School, Church of Christ Primary School, Christiline Gill Primary School, Assemblies of God Primary School, and the Corozal Nazarene Primary School. The desktop donations were handed over by Mr. Mohammad Kazi, Vice President of Operations at Transparent BPO. Each school was gifted with two new Dell laptops from the Office of the Prime Minister, which will assist the teachers with their training needs.
After the presentation of the computers, Hon. Thea Garcia-Ramirez, Minister of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs, handed over a total of four Augmented Reality Units as part of the newly introduced Metal Inert Gas (MIG) Welding Augmented Reality (AR) Training System. Each of the four units includes one Simulator device, one Arc welding torch, one Gas welding torch, one TIG welding torch, one VR-based welding headset, one touchscreen, and one Stand. This means that the four units can accommodate a total of 16 welding students simultaneously. These Welding Augmented Reality (AR) Training Systems will allow the Corozal ITVET to conduct the first phase of welding instruction through augmented reality without the use of welding rods, acetylene, or oxygen, making training more cost-effective.
Also attending the handing-over ceremony were Principal Nancy Aguilar; Principal Jose Chan; Principal Carla Whittaker; Teacher Rebeca Thompson; Principal Valentine Gonzalez; Mr. Lincoln Blake, Director of the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit of the Ministry of Investment; and Mr. Hiram Riverol, board member of the Corozal ITVET.
