GOB Responds to Irresponsible Misinformation

Belmopan, November 27, 2023.

The Government of Belize wishes to correct the misinformation published and that is being circulated regarding a purported “sick-out” by crown counsels.

The Attorney General’s Ministry has clarified that crown counsels at the ministry are in full complement today, but for three officers who are on approved vacation leave. Additionally, it is confirmed that only one magistrate is on sick leave.

Similarly, the work of the office of the Director of Public Prosecution in the courts continued, and prosecutors appeared in courts in all matters that were scheduled.

Accordingly, the administration of justice has not been halted, and the work of the government at the Attorney General’s Ministry continues unaffected.

The publication and social media hysteria regarding an alleged sick-out represent a gross exaggeration of the state of judicial affairs and reckless, irresponsible reporting.

As a responsible employer, the Government of Belize will not respond in public domains to unknown sources on employment issues on which it engages with its employees. Furthermore, the government values and respects the legal and judicial officers in the service, as is the case with all public officers and teachers, and has been working tirelessly to address all concerns.
