GOB Invests BZD$3.1M in Trio Community

Belmopan, April 11, 2024.

The community of Trio in the Toledo District will benefit from an investment of BZD$3.1M in the next 18 months. This includes farmland preparation, upgrading 3.9 miles of farm road, the construction of the access bridge, the construction of a storage and office building, the procurement of irrigation equipment for 31.6 acres of pineapple farmland, pineapple planting materials and farm equipment.

The investment, via the Ministry of Economic Development’s Resilient Rural Belize (RRB) project, was finalized on April 5 with a community acceptance letter, signed by Hon. Oscar Requena, Minister of Rural Transformation, Hon. Rodwell Ferguson, Dr. Osmond Martinez, CEO in the Ministry of Economic Development, and Mr. Julio Rivera, President of the Cooperativa de Los Buenos Amigos Cooperative Society Limited of Trio Village.

The investment aims to enhance agricultural infrastructure and livelihoods in Trio Village. The involvement of government officials and community leaders is a clear indication of a collaborative effort to stimulate economic growth, boost rural development and resilience, and commit to sustainable farming practices.

The signing took place during a community visit and consultations led by CEO Dr. Osmond Martinez, which included Ministers Oscar Requena and Rodwell Ferguson and the Resilient Rural Belize team.
