Economic Recovery Committee Activates Emergency Plans

Belmopan, November 1, 2022. 1:30 p.m. 

The Economic Recovery Committee of Belize, chaired by Dr. Osmond Martinez, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Economic Development, met on October 31, 2022, to discuss their Hurricane Preparedness Plans, ensuring that all essential workers are equipped and organized for Tropical Storm Lisa and are ready to coordinate and assist with the rehabilitation and reconstruction during the recovery.

The committee comprises representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment; the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO); the Ministry of Agriculture; the Ministry of Tourism; the Ministry of Infrastructure, Development and Housing; the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Hydrology Department; the Belmopan City Council; the National Meteorological Service of Belize; Belize Water Services Limited; Belize Electricity Limited; Belize Coast Guard; Belize Social Investment Fund; Speednet; Digi; and PUMA Belize.

The public is encouraged to move quickly and refrain from making last-minute preparations. Buy all essential groceries and household items; secure your families, homes, pets, vehicles and important documents; relocate to a safe location where possible; stock up on water and boil water before use after the storm. Drive safely.  Continue to monitor the system and follow the official releases from NEMO and the National Meteorological Service of Belize.

All emergency plans have been activated. The Economic Recovery Committee assures the public that they stand ready and prepared for the aftermath of Tropical Storm Lisa.
