Cabinet Brief

The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño, met on 25th March 2024.

  • Demonstrating Belize’s firm commitment to the maritime industry and to implementing and maintaining international maritime standards, Cabinet approved the National Maritime Strategy for the International Maritime Organization Instrument Implementation Code as recommended by the Maritime Technical Committee.
  • Cabinet is pleased to announce approval of the National Gender Policy 2024 – 2030 as Women’s Month concludes. The policy aligns closely with Plan Belize and covers the important areas of education, health, employment, income generation, gender-based violence, and decision-making.
  • Cabinet endorsed the decision by the Minister of Home Affairs to seek the Governor General’s approval to issue a proclamation to declare a state of public emergency in the part of Belize City known as the Southside, which is specified in Schedule I, and parts of the Cayo District, namely the Hattieville and Another World Areas of Roaring Creek Village, and the Young Bank Area of Camalote Village, effective 26th March 2024.
  • After being apprised of a request for members of the Kosovo Security Force to conduct training along with the British Army Training Support Unit (BATSUB), Cabinet gave its approval and requested that the Ministry of Defence and Border Security develop a Status of Forces Agreement.
  • Cabinet gave its approval for the National Sports Council (NSC) to develop mechanisms to encourage sustainable financial support to uplift sports, aid athletes and maintain facilities that are being administered by the NSC, and set up a Cabinet Sub-Committee to explore further development of sports in Belize.
  • Cabinet approved a public-private partnership for the management and operation of three electric coach buses in Belize. This is a part of a pilot project to conduct a feasibility study on electric mobility.
  • Finally, Cabinet wishes all Belizeans a safe and Happy Easter.
