Cabinet Brief

The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño, met on 26th September 2023.

  • In addition to price control considerations, Cabinet agreed on more targeted actions to support the most vulnerable populations affected by food price inflation.
  • Cabinet welcomed the outcome document, presented by the Minister of Education, on the Belize@42 Creative Youth Ideas Summit.  The summit provided a platform for youth to engage in constructive solutions-based dialogue while sharing their thoughts and ideas for sustainable and social development of Belize.  The Prime Minister welcomed the opportunity to review the document, which represents the voice of Belize’s youth.
  • Cabinet received an update on the progress of the development of a Government Administration Campus in Belize City, including a new judicial complex to house the senior courts and other related services. The development will be funded through a public-private agreement with the Social Security Board.
  • Cabinet was updated on the Belize Rural Electrification Project, including the inauguration of a new micro-grid, being spearheaded by the Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics and E-Governance. The micro-grid will serve 400 customers in the villages of Indian Creek, Medina Bank, and Golden Stream. Additionally, Cabinet was informed of the expansion of electricity to the villages of Corazon Creek, Jalacte, San Benito Poite, San Vicente, San Carlos and Indian Church scheduled for 2024.
  • Cabinet took note of the progress being made with the Pilot Project for Electronic Vehicle Technology to develop an enabling environment to support the accelerated penetration of electric vehicles in Belize.
