Belmopan, May 28, 2026.
The Cabinet met on May 26, 2026.
- In preparation for the start of the 2026 hurricane season, Cabinet received a full briefing from senior staff of the ministry with responsibility for Disaster Risk Management and gave its full support for and approval of measures being put in place for this year’s hurricane season.
- Cabinet gave its endorsement of a proposed concession agreement between the Department of Transport/Transport Board and the National Bus Company establishing a structured operational and regulatory framework for the modernization and coordinated operation of designated corridors under the existing transportation statutory regime. This will allow for the facilitation of investment by the NBC and will contribute to a reliable, safe and financially sustainable public transport industry.
- Cabinet welcomed an update on the status of Belize’s project submissions under the CARICOM Development Fund. These resources, nine million dollars in loan and grant funds, directly target rural poverty alleviation, agricultural modernization, and climate resilient education infrastructure. The projects include school infrastructure development in the Corozal and Cayo districts, honey and livestock development and the establishment of a market building in Bella Vista, Toledo.
- Cabinet expressed serious concern over the removal of dangerous military ordinances by a private citizen from the Baldy Beacon area in the Cayo District. Belizeans are reminded that the Baldy Beacon area is restricted at times to enable military operations to be carried out. Cabinet requested a full investigation to ensure there is no further repeat of the incident.
- Finally, Cabinet advises all Belizeans that as we are about to enter the hurricane season, be vigilant, stay tuned to official reporting agencies in the event of a potential threat, and ensure that your hurricane plan is in place.
