The Cabinet met on 21st October 2025.

  • Cabinet received the report on the tragic incident in San Felipe, which involved an act of arson perpetrated by a woman’s former partner, and resulted in the deaths of three innocent victims. Cabinet reaffirmed its zero-tolerance position on domestic violence and committed to strengthening the national framework for prevention, protection, and prosecution. The Government will continue to support the relevant Ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs; the Ministry of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries; and the Ministry of Health and Wellness, to ensure that survivors of violence receive the care, protection, and justice they deserve.
  • Cabinet gave its endorsement of the Ministry of Health’s initiative to begin the training of additional nurses, medical officers, medical specialists, and other health care professionals to staff the San Pedro Hospital, scheduled to be completed before 2028, and the soon-to commence Belmopan Hospital.
  • Cabinet was updated on the status of the National Integrated Water Resources Act and approved its implementation under the National Hydrological Service, which is to be turned into a department of Government. By doing this, Government can achieve a functioning legal and regulatory water management framework that is aligned with national policies, climate resilience strategies, and sustainable development objectives.
  • To address the alarming number of serious and fatal traffic accidents involving motorcycles, Cabinet approved mandatory training and certification for all applications for Class D drivers’ licenses, as well as other measures to address other motorcycle-related infractions, including non-use and/or improper use of helmets, speeding, improper overtaking, and excessive noise.
  • Cabinet discussed ways to improve health care at all levels, to improve compliance, and to reduce secondary complications of chronic disease, and requested that the Ministry of Health and Wellness work with the Ministry of Finance to explore ways to reduce the cost of certain classes of drugs used in the management of noncommunicable diseases.
  • Finally, Cabinet reminds all Belizeans that it is the peak of the hurricane season. Remain vigilant and be prepared.
