Belize Sends Hurricane Relief Assistance to Jamaica and Cuba

Belmopan, November 11, 2025.

The Government of Belize has contributed US$200,000 each to the Government of Jamaica and the Government of the Republic of Cuba to support immediate humanitarian relief following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa, which severely impacted both countries.

Hurricane Melissa, one of the most powerful hurricanes to emerge in the Atlantic Ocean, caused extensive damage to homes, public infrastructure, and essential services. The impact of Hurricane Melissa reminds us of the deadly and costly impacts of climate change, which disproportionately affect small island developing states.

In addition to the financial assistance, the Government of Belize has dispatched relief supplies to Belizean students in Jamaica and Cuba. The initial shipment included essential personal hygiene items, canned food supplies, and cash to assist our students.

The Government of Belize continues to monitor the situation closely and stands ready to provide additional support as needed.

Belize stands in steadfast solidarity with the governments and peoples of Jamaica and the Republic of Cuba as they work toward recovery and reconstruction. Our countries remain united by an enduring bond of friendship, cooperation, and mutual support.
