Belmopan. May 23, 2025.
The Ministry of Economic Transformation (MET) is proud to announce that the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) has approved grant funding of up to BZD $1.9 million (US$950,000) in technical assistance to support the development of Belize’s Municipal Resiliency Initiative.
Approved through Resolution No. DI-45/2025, this support will fund feasibility studies and consultancy services for the development of a climate resilience project targeting municipalities across Belize, including Dangriga, Orange Walk, Punta Gorda, and Corozal.
The initiative aims to assess vulnerability and resilience needs in urban areas, laying the foundation for investments that strengthen infrastructure and services in the face of increasing climate change impacts.
“This critical support from CABEI allows us to take a proactive step toward building municipalities that are better prepared for the climate realities we face,” said Mr. Carlos Pol, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry. “It also reflects our broader strategy to align local development with sustainable, inclusive, and climate-smart solutions.”
The Municipal Resiliency Initiative is envisioned as a flagship program under MET’s climate and economic transformation agenda. Through this technical assistance, the Government of Belize will be equipped with data-driven insights and recommendations to guide future investments in urban resilience.
The Government and people of Belize express sincere gratitude to CABEI for its continued partnership and support. This collaboration is a clear testament to Belize’s commitment to sustainable development, climate adaptation, and the shared goal of a resilient future for all.
