Belize Hosts 8th Multi-National Security Conference

The Ministry of National Defence and Border Security is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the 8th Multi-National Security Conference, held in San Ignacio from November 14 to 15.

This prestigious event brought together key representatives and high-ranking officials from Belize, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, and Mexico to foster international collaboration in addressing critical security challenges.

The conference served as a platform for open and constructive dialogue on a range of security issues. Discussions focused on security cooperation and capacity-building requirements for the Belize Coast Guard, Belize Defence Force (BDF), and Joint Intelligence and Operations Centre. Participants engaged in insightful discussions, sharing perspectives, expertise, and best practices to enhance collective efforts in maintaining peace and security.

Hon. Oscar Mira, Minister of State in the Ministry of National Defence and Border Security, emphasized the importance of multi-national cooperation in the face of evolving security threats.

He said, “In an interconnected world, the challenges we face are complex and require collaborative solutions. This conference provided an invaluable opportunity to strengthen ties with our international partners and reinforce our commitment to a safer and more secure environment.”

The Belize delegation was represented by Hon. Oscar Mira, Brigadier General (Ret’d) Dario Tapia, CEO for the Ministry of National Defence and Border Security, and Admiral John Borland, Chief of Defence Staff. Brigadier General Azriel Loria, Commander of the BDF, and Rear Admiral Elton Bennett, Commandant of the Belize Coast Guard, also participated in the conference.
