With reference to the case concerning Sovereignty over the Sapodilla Cayes/Cayes Zapotillos (Belize v. Honduras: Guatemala intervening), on 21 September 2026, Belize submitted to the International Court of Justice its written observations on the written statement of the Republic of Guatemala. The written observations, which consist of two volumes (the written observations themselves and one volume of annexes), were filed in the Registry pursuant to Article 85, paragraph 1, of the Rules of Court, within the time limit as extended by the Court in its Order of 16 April 2026.
The written observations of the Republic of Honduras on Guatemala’s written statement were also filed in the Registry on the same day.
The Agent of Belize was represented by Ms. Mariana Verde, Chief Operations Officer, Office of Belize’s Agent to the International Court of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Belize, accompanied by Ms. Catherine Drummond, a member of Belize’s legal team.
