The Office of the Prime Minister, on behalf of the people and Government of Belize, extends condolences to President Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and the people of the Republic of Cuba on the passing of Mr. Ricardo Alarcón de Quesada, Cuban diplomat and politician.

In his sympathy message, Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño noted that Mr. Alarcón de Quesada was Cuba’s “ambassador to the United Nations at the height of Belize’s struggle for independence, and his advice and support were indispensable in helping us to construct and to win massive and ultimately almost universal support for the UN Resolutions that made our secure independence possible.”

The Prime Minister also highlighted that he remained a great friend to Belize as he gave support to the solidarity between Cuba and Belize shown in health, education, culture, and sports among others.

The people and Government of Belize share their deepest condolences to the entire family, government and people of Cuba.
