Belmopan, October 9, 2026.
The Cabinet met on 6th October 2026.
- Cabinet gave its endorsement for the use of retroactive financing mechanisms through the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for a rural electrification program to expand and improve access to sustainable, reliable, and modern electricity in unserved and underserved rural and indigenous communities in Southern Belize. The retroactive financing allows the Government of Belize to self-finance up to US$4.7 million, which would be reimbursed under the loan.
- Considering Belize’s steadfast commitment to International Humanitarian Law, consistent with its stated foreign policy objectives and priorities, Cabinet gave its approval for Belize to join the Global Initiative to Galvanize Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law. Joining this initiative is therefore consistent with Belize’s position on international law and the United Nations Charter and will underscore Belize’s credibility as a champion of international law.
- Cabinet approved the recommendations by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Petroleum and Mining to enter into Production Sharing Agreements for oil and gas exploration and production with Maranco Limited and Cara Energy, subject to certain conditions.
- Cabinet approved the launch of the Medium-Term Development Strategy (MTDS) report under #planBelize 2.0. The MTDS is organized around five strategic thrusts: Sustainable Economic Transformation; Social Protection and Human Resilience; Sustainable Rural and Agricultural Development; Environment, Conservation and Climate Resilience; and Institutional Strengthening and Public Service Modernization. Together, these five thrusts form an integrated national development agenda.
- Finally, Cabinet wishes all Belizeans a safe and happy Indigenous People’s Resistance Day.
