The Ministry of the Public Service, Disaster Risk Management and Enterprise, through the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the World Food Programme (WFP) to strengthen emergency supply-chain management capacity and enhance national preparedness for humanitarian response during disasters and other emergencies.
Under the agreement, the WFP equipment has been pre-positioned at the NEMO warehouse in Belmopan to support the establishment of an Emergency Logistics Staging Area (ESA). An ESA serves as a logistics hub that can be rapidly set up during an emergency to support the storage, coordination, and movement of humanitarian assistance and relief supplies.
A small ceremony was held on Friday to mark the collaboration, during which the Hon. Henry Charles Usher, Minister of the Public Service, Disaster Risk Management and Enterprise, and Mr. Tony Spence, Programme Policy Officer in the WFP Belize Satellite Office, under the Caribbean Multi-Country Office, viewed the equipment pre-positioned at the NEMO warehouse in Belmopan.
The agreement marks an important milestone in the ongoing collaboration between the Government of Belize and the WFP to strengthen national emergency preparedness and response capacities.
Through NEMO, the Government of Belize continues to strengthen national preparedness by building partnerships and ensuring that essential resources, equipment, and logistical arrangements are in place before disasters occur.
