Hon. Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security, and New Growth Industries, is attending the Ordinary Meeting of the Central American Agricultural Council (CAC), which began this morning in San José, Costa Rica. This forum brings together Ministers of Agriculture from the member countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA) to strengthen regional coordination and advance a joint agenda for the sustainable development of the agricultural sector.
During the proceedings, officials will address strategic issues aimed at strengthening food security, climate resilience, agricultural health, and regional cooperation. Special attention will also be given to the agricultural sector’s response to the 2026–2027 El Niño phenomenon and its potential regional impacts, fostering coordinated actions to safeguard food production and bolster the response capacity of member countries.
The opening session was attended by Hon. Rodwell Ferguson, Pro Tempore President of the CAC; Muhammad Ibrahim, Director General of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA); and David Martínez, CAC Executive Secretary. They reiterated the importance of strengthening regional integration and cooperation among countries to jointly address the challenges facing the agricultural sector.
