Late on Saturday, July 18, 2026, a ferry which departed from Georgetown, Guyana, carrying one hundred and sixteen passengers and seventeen crew members, capsized in rough waves. The latest reports indicate that sixty-seven persons have been rescued, and a massive search-and-rescue effort is currently underway for those who remain missing.
On behalf of the people of Belize, Hon. John Briceño and the Government of Belize extend prayers of hope for the safe rescue of those still missing off the coast of Guyana and offer comfort to the families awaiting the return of their loved ones.
The thoughts of the people of Belize are with the people of Guyana as they grapple with this tragedy.
