Belize Secures Climate Resilience Funding and Assumes CDB Chairmanship

Belmopan, June 8, 2026.

In addition to assuming the Chairmanship of the CDB Board of Governors, Belize secured BZ$20.2 million in grant financing to strengthen Belize’s climate resilience and disaster preparedness during the 56th Meeting of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) in Nassau, The Bahamas.  The funding forms part of the Green Climate Fund (GCF)-supported regional project, Scaling Up of Caribbean Hydrometeorological and Multi-Hazard Early Warning Services (CREWS) in Belize and Trinidad and Tobago.

The grant will support the upgrade of radar and forecasting infrastructure, the development of impact-based forecasting systems, the enhancement of institutional capacity for disaster risk reduction, and the integration of climate information services across key sectors.

During bilateral meetings with representatives of the Green Climate Fund and the Caribbean Development Bank, Minister Martinez and his delegation expressed appreciation for their continued partnership and support. The Government of Belize recognizes the important role both institutions play in advancing initiatives that strengthen national resilience and help safeguard communities from the growing impacts of climate change.

The delegation was led by Dr. Hon. Osmond Martinez, Alternate Governor to the CDB and Minister of State in the Ministry of Economic Transformation. It also included Mr. Carlos Pol, Director on the CDB Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Economic Transformation; Mr. Henry Anderson, Chief Executive Officer of the Development Finance Corporation; Mr. Jerdie King, Economist in the Ministry of Economic Transformation, and Mr. Michael Rudon, Director of the Government of Belize Press Office.
