Belize and India Meet to Strengthen Agricultural Cooperation

Belmopan, May 14, 2026.

On May 13, 2026, the Stann Creek Agriculture Department successfully coordinated a Poultry Disease and Biosecurity Training aimed at strengthening poultry health management and improving biosecurity practices among poultry farmers in the district.

The training session was facilitated by Dr. Victor Gongora and Dr. Joe Myers, veterinary consultants with the Belize Poultry Association. The facilitators delivered presentations on common poultry diseases, prevention measures, farm sanitation, and the importance of maintaining strong biosecurity systems to protect poultry production.

Mr. Lionel Irving, representing the Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA), shared valuable information on poultry disease surveillance and highlighted the role farmers play in early detection and reporting of disease outbreaks.

The training had the participation of 35 poultry farmers from across the district, reflecting the growing interest in improving poultry management practices and safeguarding the industry.

At the conclusion of the session, participants were presented with certificates in recognition of their active engagement throughout the training.
